While attending Jackson State University, I enlisted in the US Army Reserves and after graduation pursued a career in education as a high school teacher at Compton Unified School District under the Bill Gates Foundation. During my tenure teaching at Compton High School, I worked diligently with school administrators to increase standardized test scores. I have continued my love of education by working as a substitute teacher.
I believe it is important that each child in Hillsborough Co. schools is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
Currently, I'm serving my second term as President of the PTSA at my daughters' high school. I'm a member of the Junior League of Tampa where I’ve held various leadership positions such as Community Child Welfare Manager, serving children across District 5.
I was also responsible for overseeing programs that worked with teens aging out of foster care, provided supplies for children entering foster care, a mentoring program for girls and many other programs for youth. Additionally, I've served as an Advocacy Manager working in partnership with local and state officials to end human trafficking. I have volunteered over 20 years as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and currently a charter member of the AATO chapter chairing the political awareness committee (Connection). I'm an active member of the NAACP Political Action Committee and a member of Jack and Jill of America serving in leadership positions each year.
As the wife of a soldier, I have been given the opportunity to live in many cities. I am proud to call Tampa our forever home as my husband approaches military retirement. I will continue to be a servant leader in our great city.
It is time we elect a leader who understands the different viewpoints- the students, the parents, and the teachers. It is time we elect a leader who understands that our diverse community must work together. It is time for a fresh perspective.
Please join me as “We work together for our students!”
